The importance of industrial safety gates

Nothing is more important than keeping colleagues safe, so don’t compromise when it comes to installing industrial safety gates.

Here, we outline some of the key considerations to look out for before purchasing industrial safety gates for your workplace.

Industrial safety gates should self close

Industrial safety gates should self close to avoid obstruction for both pedestrians and vehicle operators. Self closing gates help to protect people at access points, platforms and loading bays by eliminating human error and avoiding people walking through restricted areas without awareness.

Not only does the Safety P-Gate™ self close, its unique single hinge design also removes virtually all risk of finger traps, making the gates even more safe than they already are. The closing speed can also be adjusted to make them suitable for any application.

Industrial safety gates should be made to last

Maintaining your safety gates and ensuring they are still fit for purpose takes a lot of time that could be spent on other areas of the business. Save this time by opting for a low-maintenance, long-lasting finish on your gates.

Safety P-Gates™ are hot dip galvanized and powder coated for enhanced protection against corrosion, reducing the frequency of replacements even with outside installation. When galvanizing and powder coating are used on the same fabrication, it is known as a duplex coating: a durable synergy of the two coating methods. We can also provide a galvanized-only finish on our gates if required.

Gate placement matters

There are different factors to consider depending on whether your safety gate is located indoors or outdoors.

Indoor use

Safety gates can be used indoors along walkways to provide a safe path for pedestrians to and from access points. Putting a gate along access points helps people to think about their own safety before proceeding, helping to reduce the risk of accidents.

Outdoor use

Outdoor gates should be corrosion resistant and withstand atmospheric attack, especially in the rainy winter months. Not only does this help the gates last longer, it also helps save money in the long term on replacements and upkeep.

All our gates are hot dip galvanized and powder coated by us, protecting against corrosion and providing a longer lifespan than painted safety gates. Not only this, the coating is low-maintenance to help save time on repeat inspections.

Gate opening direction

No matter where you’re installing them, it’s important to make sure the gates open in the correct direction to avoid potential collisions. The Safety P-Gate™ can be manufactured and assembled to open to the left or right, and inwards or outwards; our gates are made to order to ensure they suit your exact requirements.

Safety gates made to order

No two workplaces are the same, so we bespoke manufacture gates to suit your exact specifications. They can be made to open inwards or outwards, and on the left or right side, to ensure they don’t block paths or roads for vehicles.

The gates will also need to be a bright colour to make sure they are easily visible to both pedestrians and vehicle operators. Safety P-Gates™ are powder coated by us after hot dip galvanizing, helping improve both their visibility and longevity. While we usually offer a bright yellow for these gates, simply let us know if you need a different colour and we’ll be happy to help.
