Every parent wants their child to be able to play in a fun, safe environment – and the public playgrounds you manage are no different. From the first impressions on arriving to practical safety considerations, we outline some of the key considerations to look out for when choosing the right playground safety gate.
Playground gates should be a different colour from the fencing that surrounds them, making them easily recognisable as a point of entry to the playground. This acts as both a convenience and a safety consideration in emergencies where quick recognition of access points is needed.
The Mono Hinge Self Closing Gate can be powder coated in a wide range of colours, helping to contrast any existing fencing while also being visually appealing for visitors.

Playground gates that don’t close automatically are likely to be left open, creating a safety risk from unexpected swinging motions that can injure children.
Closing speed is just as important as whether they self close at all; gates that close too quickly may also swing back before visitors have enough time to pass through.
All Mono Hinge gates are self-closing, with a gentle mechanism and an adjustable closing speed, ensuring maximum safety and making sure the playground remains accessible for all. The gates can be manufactured to be opened inwards or outwards, with the hinge on the left or right, to suit any requirement.
Frequent downtime maintaining and repairing playground gates takes a lot of time, and can create disruptions for visitors. Additionally, if the gate has a poor quality coating, you run the risk of spending more money on replacements and repairs of the gates, which can add up over time.
Our gates are hot dip galvanized and powder coated for extended durability and protection against corrosion. When galvanizing and powder coating are used on the same steel fabrication, it is known as a duplex coating: a durable synergy of the two coating methods.
We can also offer a galvanized-only finish if required, keeping the gates protected against corrosion while keeping the steel appearance. Galvanized steel requires little to no maintenance over its long lifespan, meaning less downtime and disruption – not only for you, but also for the children and parents visiting the playground.
Gate hinges can easily trap fingers, but what if all external hinges were removed?
Mono Hinge gates have a unique single hinge design, removing virtually all risk of trapped fingers. Combined with a gentle self closing mechanism, Mono Hinge gates are truly one of the safest playground gates on the market.

To be wheelchair accessible, RoSPA guidelines advise that gates should be at least 1 metre wide, self-closing with a closure time of at least 3-5 seconds, and have easy to operate latches.
Mono Hinge single gates are a minimum of 1.2m wide, with our largest double gates providing an overall width of over 2.7m, and adjustable closing speeds to allow people time to pass through safely. We’re proud to supply inclusive playground gates.
